Raynaud's Phenomenon Overview

Raynaud's phenomenon

Raynaud's syndrome, often known as Raynaud's illness, is a medical ailment characterized by the constriction of blood vessels in the extremities, leading to restricted blood flow. Typically, these episodes or "attacks" primarily impact the digits of the hands and feet.  Although infrequent, attacks can also occur in other regions such as the ears or nose. The affected region initially undergoes pallor, followed by a change in hue, and thereafter becomes numb and cold.Later when the blood flow returns, there is a feeling of warmth or tingling sensation. This phenomena typically arises following exposure to low temperatures or as a result of emotional stress. Raynaud's phenomenon can be classified into two categories: primary and secondary. The former does not have a specific cause; it could be attributed to any of the afore mentioned reasons. The latter can be attributed to an additional underlying health problem, typically an autoimmune disease such as lupus.

Implementing a few lifestyle tweaks can effectively manage this illness. However, under certain unfavorable circumstances, this repetitive and limited blood circulation can result in gangrene, which is the necrosis or death of the tissue. This is when the implementation of treatment becomes significant.

Ayurveda utilizes the therapy approach of siragata vata or vatarakta in the management of Raynaud's phenomenon. This encompasses both internal drugs and external therapy.

 Advantages

In certain instances, Raynaud's phenomenon can be managed by applying heat to the affected area. This can dilate the blood arteries and restore normal blood circulation. However, when these attacks occur frequently and are accompanied by infection or sores in the affected area, it is imperative to seek appropriate therapy. Ayurveda focuses on rectifying this disease by giving sufficient attention to the underlying cause. At this facility, we modify lifestyle choices and restore your health with the assistance of essential medications.
